I was really hopeful for the Black Walnut but it falls very short. I can’t taste the walnut at all. I had a black walnut old fashioned in Vegas that was amazing with a really strong nutty flavor. This syrup just falls short. Just my opinion. The Traditional is still great.

I really wanted to LOVE this because I am a massive fan of black walnut. I'm not saying it's not good. It's fine. But the black walnut is very subtle and, in my opinion, doesn't come through enough in cocktails. I plan to buy from Proof again, but I'll probably go with a different flavor profile for the mixers that I try from them in the future.

Very nice flavor, takes edge off strong whiskey but keeps it real. Recommend rye whiskey with this flavor as the walnut flavor combines with rye to create a smooth drink with a little heat.

This stuff is the best tasting mixer there is for an all in one, however, at $35 a bottle, that is about the cost of a medium quality bourbon, like Bulliet. Therefore, the mixer should never cost this much. So for me, this was a one time purchase until the price is reasonable, about $14-15 a bottle.

I am a big fan of the traditional syrup and was so excited to try the black walnut. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t have much flavor. It’s fine to use to add a touch of sweet, but any black walnut taste (and I still am not sure it’s there) is quickly overpowered by the alcohol.

So black walnut is my definitely a contender for traditional. The taste is refined and not as robust as traditional but it works REALLY well with an overproofed rye such as EH Taylor. Get your hands on this one and bring out more flavors!
