Basil Proof Syrup is bright, herbal, sweet, and almost citrusy — a little like freshly picked basil, yes? And just like fresh basil, it’s also got a zesty, peppery quality that helps it stand up to assertive flavors without overpowering subtler ones. Try it in martinis and sours, and in citrus-based cocktails like the Tom Collins — like so: 

Lemon Basil Collins: Shake 2 oz vodka, 1 oz Basil Proof Syrup, and 1 oz lemon juice with ice. Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass and top with club soda. Garnish with basil leaves and lemon wheel.

The basil in Basil Proof Syrup isn’t quite the sweet little herb we all know from salad dressings and pasta sauces. Technically, botanically, yes, same exact thing. But flavorwise, it’s the other basil — the bright, almost lemony, slightly herbal version you get when you pinch a leaf right off the stem. That’s what our syrup masters managed to capture and bottle — that burst of fresh, summery flavor. Here’s a cocktail that showcases Basil Proof Syrup’s fresh taste by pairing it with one of our favorite spirits:

Bourbon Basil Sour


2 oz Bourbon

1 oz Basil Proof Syrup

¾ oz Lemon Juice

Basil Leaf & Lemon Wheel to Garnish


1. Shake bourbon, Proof Syrup, and lemon juice with ice.

2. Strain into ice-filled rocks glass. 

3. Garnish with basil leaf and lemon wheel.
